Simply leave the world behind – at PanoramaHotel Penegal.
We are driving uphill, kilometre after kilometre. In the direction of Penegal. The small street winds its way through picturesque forests. Nothing else seems to be here – but only at first glance. Because suddenly you are at 1,737m and in front of you it is: Hotel Penegal! And as if the drive up here would not have been breath-taking enough, the view you have now really takes your breath away! How scenic! It feels like the whole world is lying at your feet! And while your eyes are still wandering, your holiday has begun. At Hotel Penegal, which, after a long, deep sleep, is now as good as new thanks to its new owners. So, are you curious?
First a mountain hut, then a modern Grand Hotel, where the rich and beautiful went for cures in the end of the 19th century and finally, in the 60s and 70s, a ski hotel: the PanoramaHotel Penegal has an eventful story to tell, which we, the now owners, want to keep writing.

THE MENDEL CABLE CAR – A MASTERPIECE
The Mendel Mountain (1.363m) was widely known as a resort for cures with clear air already in the 19th century and famous guests such as Empress Elisabeth of Austria or Mahatma Gandhi liked coming here. In order to connect this cure resort with the one in Gries near Bozen, the Swiss engineer Emil Strub designed a cable car, which was opened in 1903. Just two years later, Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria used this cable car to reach military exercises in the Non Valley. At that time, it was the first electrically powered cable car in Austria, the steepest in Europe and the longest in the world. With its inclination of 64%, it is still among the steepest cable cars in Europe. A ride with the Mendel cable car was spectacular in the past and it still is today, also because of the fantastic views.
By the way, if you are staying in our hotel, you can use the Mendel cable car to reach us – on request, we can pick you up at the mountain station.
